Presenter Of The Mix Tape & Tech120 Show.
Ever since I was knee high to a grasshopper I can remember Radio.
The daily routine of my Dad’s clock radio that would come on every morning at 6am blaring out to ensure he and mum got to work on time. The Sunday morning classic shows on local radio that taught me all I needed to know about the great music of the 60’s and 70’s. Through my teens listening to Virgin Radio’s shock jock Nick Abbot religiously every night, he would play great music and entertain and eventually inspire me to pick up an instrument and become the creative person I am today.
When we first moved to Bradley Stoke it seemed such a big place and we heard there was 25,000 people here but we just didn’t seem to meet anybody and I guess it’s because of the society we are.
We all go about our daily business and probably walk past people who live just across the way from us, but these fleeting moments don’t amount to any sense of community. It must’ve been a sign when my wife Rachael joined Bradley Stoke Radio and came home and said that the members were all really lovely people and they were all doing their bit for the community and not getting paid. It seemed foreign to me but the more research I did about community radio showed me the incredible potential that it can bring to a community and how much fun you can have along the way. I wanted to be part of this so I signed up straight away.
I initially volunteered to help with IT, posters and marketing, there was no way that I was going to present a show. How wrong I was, after the brilliant training sessions we attended, I decided to take the plunge and team up with a fellow trainee and now Tech120 show partner in crime Ian H. I’m now even doing a solo slot called the Mix Tape, while still helping out where I can with anything technical or marketing related.
If your reading this and thinking of joining up don’t hesitate, I whole heartedly recommend it. You won’t meet a nicer bunch of people who care about this community and the surrounding area, and want to make great radio at the same time.
