Richpickins – ” On The Road Again”

A regular reader of the Evening Post I was browsing through one afternoon in January when I spotted an advertisement from a community

radio station who were looking for volunteers and offering free training courses.

Having always had an ambition to get involved in “radio”, I thought, could this be my chance?

Ironically, at the same time I had just filled out the forms to join my local hospital radio station in Weston super Mare (I’d spent 20 years thinking about it)

My only concern was, did I live too far away from the community of Bradley Stoke to be considered for membership?

Nothing could have been further from the truth and I was invited to attend a meeting at the palatial Willow Brook Centre and the rest they say is history!

After a few weeks of training I was getting ready to present a “radio show” broadcasting live “on air” during the RSL in June.

It’s been great fun learning new skills, I’ve had the “Audacity” to fall in love with “Zara” & seen my confidence “Zoom” as I have “Gained” in confidence.

It’s a strange thing but, although I live outside Bradley Stoke I have been accepted from “day one” and now feel very much part of the community.

Thanks to Bradley Stoke Radio I have ticked off another “must do before” and made some good friends of all ages & shared a few laughs!

Since becoming a member, I have been hugely impressed by everyone’s commitment towards the radio station.

I look forward to seeing BSR continue to grow & become a permanent fixture within the Bradley Stoke Community.

PS – The application forms for the Hospital Radio are still on my desk!
