ADT (Automatic Double Tracking)
ADT is an affect used in music to thicken up the lead vocal sound. Invented especially for the Beatles when recording thier seminal album Revolver.
John Lennon was not a fan of recording the same vocal twice so he insisted that the recording engineers found a way for him to double up on the vocals without the extra effort. The system that was used to achive this was to add a second tape recorder, and the vocal track on the mix was rerouted from the playback head of the second tape machine, and an oscilator was then used to gradually slow the other tape down which then creates the doubling effect on the vocal.
The Combo Organ
The combo organ is the original ”sound of the sixties” used on numerous tracks throughout the years.
The site administrator of an excellent Combo organ resource has given us permission to feature his site.
It features a lot of information about the large variety of combo organs that have been used over the years.
